The Little Mathematician

Recent evidence shows that learning to count in preschool prepares children to succeed across the board in school, employment and life. But can preschoolers actually do math? How do you explain numbers to a four-year old?

Understanding numbers is a complex process that requires a foundation of spatial knowledge and vocabulary, called pre-math skills. And kids naturally play with math when they ask ‘How big? How many? How do you make that?’

So next time you say ‘I love you’ to a child, tell her ‘I love you to the moon and back. To the moon and back two times. To the moon and back 100 times.’ And when she finishes university, she will have a reason to say it back.
